Top 10 Rap Songs
Rap music has definitely come a long way since the pionner days of Run D.M.C and Young MC from the 1980’s when the lyrics were tamer and the music was so fresh that it was barely a genre at the time. The catchy words, groove and funkadelic sounds soon began to collaborate into what it is today. Unfortunately it has been labeled as unethical and demoralizing in many ways due to the racial, gender and political attitudes of today. However, if one is strong-willed enough to not take offense to some of the lyrics, there is a lot of hidden meaning in many of the songs. New artists continue to flood the rap music genre and though some of the songs sound the same, they all have a unique flavor about them.
This Top 10 list actually has a very diverse collection of sounds and it is not all negative. In fact, most of these songs have a smooth dance beat and can easily be meshed in with R&B. This is probably the best compilation of hits for the rap generation in recent years and well worth making a collection from.
Pullin’ Me Back-Chingy featuring Tyrese
New sensation rapper Chingy really lets loose with this upbeat R&B rap song about a woman that he is interested in. There is actually a nice refreshing sound with this one with the back-up by Tyrese. I would actually put it in an exclusive category of R&B because of the slower pace or maybe a milder rap genre as well.
Money MAker-Ludacris featuring Pharrell
This song actually displays some of the lyrics that are degrading to women and may be considered raunchy by many music standards. However there is a cool beat to it and though it is colorfully written, it might not be such a bad song if the lyrics were watered down a bit. It is a good song to listen to on the way to a party or a night club in the city.
S.E.X-Lyfe featuring LaLa Brown
This song actually has a lot of meaning when it comes to young women and sex. Though it might be a bit provocative and demeaning at first, there is a smooth beat and it’s slow pace and watered down background noise make it very easy listening. However a closer ear will reveal some hidden messages about sex and that it should not always be labeled as a bad thing but there should be precautions with it for young women.
I Know You See It-Yung Joc featuring Brandy “Ms. B” Hambrick
This song has a unique melody in that it makes you sway your arms up and your hips side to side. A good dance song perhaps as well, Yung Joc and his back up music from Brandy Ms. B Hambrick adds to the spicy flavor of this rap hit. There is a lot of variety with this song especially the background instrumentals.
Shoulder Lean-Young Dro featuring T.I.
Shoulder Lean has its own variety of interesting lyrics describing Young Dro at a club making some dance moves such as a “shoulder lean” which is among the many moves seen at the dance clubs lately. It is a nicely sounding hit with an almost pleasantly monotonous beat that will either put you to sleep or get you motivated to buy the CD and add it to your own Top 10 rap collection.
(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me-Sean PAul featuring Keyshia Cole
This is a very nice dance song well done by Sean Paul and Keyshia Cole in the background. “When you Gonna Give It Up To Me” is one of those great rap songs that also would be at home in a R&B Top 10 list as well as it has similar sounds. This song makes a good mix of lyrics, vocals and dance beat and a good addition to a rap collection.
Stuntin Like My Daddy-Birdman and Lil Wayne
This rap song has such a wide diversity of lyrics and beat that it is hard to classify it in any genre at times. Birdman and Lil Wayne really spice things up in this excellent dance song about life without limits and it is no surprise that it made it to the Top 10 rap songs list. It could also be a R&B contender as well.
U and DAt-E-40 featuring T.Pain and Kandi Girl
Here are the diverse lyrics and funky dance beat of the newly popular rap hit “U and Dat”. E-40 teamed up with T.Pain and Kandi Girl to make one of the hottest dance rap songs in a long time. It is played often at every party, dance club and even football game victory party. It has all the ingredients for Top 10 status and is well worth adding to a rap collection.
A good party song and definitely one to churn up the dance vibes, this rap song has such a wide diversity of lyrics and beat that it is hard to put it down and not play it over and over. Jibbs has a unique selection of lyrics to spice things up in this excellent dance song about life and it is no surprise that it made it to the Top 10 rap songs list. It could also be a R&B contender as well.
Need A Boss-Shareefa and Ludacris
This is a cool dance song and almost has an ‘underground rap’ feel to it especially from hearing the lyrics and beat. It is surely a good dance song and Shareefa’s sweet, sexy young voice combined with the more funky sounds of Ludacris makes this one an interesting addition to the rap and R&B collection. It well deserves status for Top 10 rap songs.
