Top 10 Techno Songs
Since Techno music’s early days in the 1980’s through the current generation of house music, there has been an increasing popularity with its style. Considered the dance music of the future with its futuristic sounds and background theme, the modern music genre has developed many offspring names such as hardcore techno, ghetto tech, speedcore and more recently house music. One must be in very good shape and not be light hearted and light winded in order to keep up with the fast-paced beat. Pioneer artists actually originated from Detroit-area high school clubs and once local DJs got wind of the unique sounds, the music soon evolved into its own genre.
Through the 1990’s and early 2000’s many talented artists with both vocal and instrumental backgrounds emerged seemingly out of nowhere with names like Dj Tiesto, Andain and LAToday. This music is definitely here to stay and with amazing dance beats with such great energy, you’ll refer to this list of Top 10 techno songs for many years to come.
Hit My Heart-Benassi Bros. & Dhani
Benassi Brothers & Dhani really turn things up with the fast paced beat of “Hit my Heart”. This song has the typical retro sound of high energy techno and the lyrics combined with the beat will make one want to play it often at clubs and parties.
Traffic is not exactly a fun song to sing simply because there are no lyrics to speak of and though it actually has a good beat, there is little in the way of creativity. This is a typical dance beat for the clubs but lacks the lyrics which can make a song stand out more for this genre. It sounds like it could be used as a back up noise segment for a BMW ad rather than a club song.
This is definitely a song that has the ingredients of Top 10 material. With a well-rounded blend of smooth synthesizer, soft lyrics and up-beat tempo, it is an excellent choice for club and house music. With lyrics like “there’s a coldness in the air but I don’t care…” you’ll want to listen closely to the rest of the excellent vocal trance this one has to offer.
Maria (I Like It Loud)-Scooter
Scooter really pumps up the jam with this high intensity hit that is recorded live so there is a concert atmosphere to add to the already intense dance vibe. Listen closely to the vocals and you might say it sounds like something from Devo or even the Ramones or The Cars. It’s no wonder that this song is in the Top 10 Techno list.
This has to be one of the better songs on this list simply because there is not such an overwhelming amount of computerized synthesizers and other digital instruments that would otherwise shroud the beautiful voice of Andain. This song actually is several bps (beats per second) less than other songs and could almost slip into the pop genre. This is an excellent addition to the Top 10 list.
The title of the track says it all. This song aptly named “Smooth” is surely that with the soft vocals of iiO, there is a striking similarity to Madonna and PJ Harvey. There is very little in the sense of techno with this song since the computerized background noise is largely absent. This makes for an excellent break from the high speed dancing and can be a good choice for a slow dance song.
Time of Our Lives-Paul Van Dyk
A nice crisp sound from Paul Van Dyk in “Time of Our Lives” but it has almost a slow pop sound as well. This song slows it down a notch from the techno norm and carries that trance feel to it. This is a good choice for a Top 10 Techno list.
The smooth sounds and semi-fast dance beat of “Damaged” has an added flavor of beautiful vocals from Plummet. The first verse of this song actually has some powerful meaning in the lyrics especially when she speaks of ‘Dreaming comes so easily Cause it’s all that I’ve known’ as she talks about being ‘damaged’ from love. The synthesizing is less obvious than the trance which works well on the dance floor.
“LAToday” is a refreshing song about life in the fast lane of LA and Alex Gold & Philip Oakey make a good team on this track and others in the album. This song might fit well in a pop category as well since there is less of the digital instrument background as in other songs. This is a good addition to the Top 10 Techno list.
Get Yourself High-Chemical Brothers & K-Os
Better known as ‘psychedelic beatmasters’, The Chemical Brothers use a lot of creativity in their synthesizers and computer sounds reminiscent of a Herbie Hancock-Yello sound from the mid 1980’s. The track titled “Get Yourself High” is a bit monotonous in nature but there is still a beat and makes for a good high intensity dance song.
